- In just his fifth start on the PGA Tour, Jhonattan Vegas earned his first victory at the Bob Hope Classic in a sudden death playoff against Gary Woodland and Bill Haas. The victory was the first win by a Venezuelan on the PGA Tour and earned him a spot at The Masters.
- Jhonattan won his second career PGA Tour event at the 2016 RBC Canadian Open and successfully defended his title in 2017 with back-to-back victories.



- His coach, Franci Betancourt, was a three-time World Cup participant for Venezuela in 1966, 1968 and 1975.
- Knew very little English when he initially arrived in Houston.
- Picked up the game by playing with a broomstick and a rock. Eventually began playing at a nine-hole course near his home built for oil-camp employees.
- Was a standout third baseman as a junior baseball player.
- Jhonattan competed in the 2016 Summer Golf Olympics representing Venezuela.
- In 2017, Jhonattan became the first player from Venezuela to compete in the Presidents Cup.
